This November, get ready as the official Doctor Who Festival takes you behind the scenes of your favourite sci-fi programme!
Danny Hargreaves and the team at Real SFX will be showcasing the very best SFX and giving the unique opportunity for the audience
to interact and sample the effects created for Doctor Who. Read below to gain an insight into what the team have planned for you at this truly not-to-be-missed event!
Real SFX will demonstrate equipment and effects used in filming Doctor Who. This area will consist of a workshop-type stand with various machines which the audience can use and operate e.g. smoke machines, co2 guns, snow machines. In addition to this there will be many materials showcased on a bench that the audience can openly interact with. We will be filling a bigger area than previous years due to the popularity of interactive stands, in order to showcase extensive equipment and Doctor Who props. The stall will be manned by Real SFX crew at all times, including when the shows are taking place. Excitably, there will be smoke and snow effects on the stand. Videos of effects from throughout Peter Capaldi’s time as the Doctor will continuously play out throughout the day as well as Real SFX’ company showreel. Over the course of the last few years, it has become apparent that audiences of all ages love the interactive nature of what we do and so the vast area supplied to us to demonstrate our craft will enable us to adhere to the needs of our audience.
Real SFX will be producing a show that showcases the craft behind the filming techniques, this time putting more of an emphasis on the early stages from conception to delivery and giving the audience more of a detailed look at the process of creating SFX. This show will focus on the bullseye arrow rig as featured in The Robot of Sherwood. We will give an insight into the first instance of highlighting the script and how it’s read, through to design and test videos, and Danny will demonstrate the final effect in front of the audience. Once this has been shown, there will be an interactive Q&A where Danny will be happy to answer questions about his time on the show for the last 10 years.
Be sure not to miss this Doctor Who Extravaganza!
